Dr. Atul Chawla, a native of India, joined Iowa Heart Center in 2001.

Dr. Chawla holds a medical degree from Christian Medical College in Ludhiana, India. He then completed an internship at the college, followed by a residency and cardiology fellowship at Creighton University in Omaha. He was named chief fellow for the 1999-2000 year.

Dr. Chawla recently completed an interventional cardiology fellowship at Iowa Heart Center.

Dr. Chawla’s professional interests include interventional cardiology - performing coronary and peripheral angioplasty, stent placements and other catheterization procedures. He is board certified in general and interventional cardiology.

Dr. Chawla offers outpatient appointments at Iowa Heart Center's West University clinic in West Des Moines, and staffs the catheterization lab at Mercy Medical Center - Des Moines.
