Maintains proficiency with all cardiac ultrasound equipment and procedures or vascular ultrasound equipment and procedures performed at the IHC. 2. Performs echocardiograms or vascular testing on Iowa Heart Center patients according to established protocol. 3. Instructs and educates patient regarding the ordered test and prepares the patient for the procedure. 4. Maintains and completes all necessary paperwork and charting for the business office and medical records. 5. Maintains equipment in designated testing areas. 6. Assists in occasional dispensing of medications. 7. Attends required meetings and participates on committees as requested. 8. Assists in answering the phone and making patient appointment reminder calls. 9. Escorts patient to testing rooms and to check-out window when appropriate. 10. Assists with the performance of stress testing. 11. Assists with stocking medical and office supplies. 12. Travels to other Iowa Heart Center offices when needed. 13. Performs related work as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS: Completion of an ultrasound program or experience in the field may be substituted for an ultrasound program. Registered or registry eligible for ARDMS exam preferred. CPR certification is required. LICENSURE/REGISTRATION: None

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES: Essential Functions: (This list of essential functions is not exhaustive and may be supplemented when necessary.) 1. Assesses, plans, coordinates, implements, educates and evaluates care of assigned cardiac patients. 2. Conducts initial history/assessment of hospital patients. Initiates standing orders. Presents patients to cardiologist. 3. Rounds on patients prior to physician. Observes and records patient assessment on progress note. 4. Assures lab and test results are documented and physician notified of abnormal results. 5. Gives verbal and written orders according to standing orders or established protocols. 6. Triages phone calls for physicians. Responds to questions according to standing orders, established protocols or direct physician input. Refers to appropriate resources. Documents accordingly. 7. Assures that family/referring physicians are kept informed of admissions, procedures, discharges, or deaths. 8. Assists physicians in documentation of charges and diagnosis codes. 9. Assures completion or discharge summaries and sign-off letters within EMR. Assures completion of the hospital medical records according to established protocol. 10. Plans and facilitates patient education; including physicians, hospital staff and family. Explains tests, procedures, and research protocols and results; provides medication teaching and assures patient has appropriate prescriptions. Prepares prescriptions for physician signature. 11. Coordinates discharge planning; makes follow-up appointments and communicates to patient. 12. Participates with special projects as assigned. 13. Participates in professional development activities and maintains professional certifications. 14. Participates in quality improvement initiatives. 15. Reports problems, concerns, changes to Department Manager. Case Management Duties: 16. Acts as liaison between the patient/family, and physician, and other health care providers. 17. Completes assessment and identifies high-risk population. 18. Collaborates in the development/implementation/evaluation of the plan of care in situation of complex or unusual patient/family needs. 19. Incorporates clinical guidelines/standard of care/pathways/standing orders into practice. 20. Demonstrates clinical expertise and acts as a resource to nursing staff, physicians, and health care providers. 21. Participates in multidisciplinary rounds with other disciplines as necessary. 22. Consults with Social Service Staff to facilitate transitions to the next level of care or home with assistance. 23. Implements patient follow-up and identification of post discharge needs. 24. Considers complex medication profile as potential for negative outcomes. 25. Provides disease specific patient education and discharge instructions. 26. Assists with weekly schedule. Assigns hospital patients to physicians. Assigns nurses to physicians. Assures hospital list is prepared. 27. Assists in development of standing orders, protocols, and procedures. 28. Provides back up to triage nurse. 29. Performs other related work as required. QUALIFICATIONS: Graduate of accredited school of nursing. Two years of experience in cardiovascular nursing or critical care experience. LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION: Valid current license as a registered nurse in the state of Iowa. CPR, ACLS certified.

Provides patient teaching and facilitates communication between physician, client, and other hospital personnel 12. Provides medication teaching and assures patient has appropriate prescriptions. 13. Coordinates discharge planning. 14. Serves as liaison between hospital staff, physicians, and patients. 15. Discusses research protocols with Research Department nurse as appropriate. 16. Participates in professional development activities and maintains professional certifications. 17. Participates in quality improvement plan. 18. Provides nursing care to patient during follow-up office visits. 19. Assists physician with procedures in the office or hospital. 20. Assesses wounds and provides care as needed under the physician’s direction. 21. Assists with collecting insurance/pre-certification information as needed. 22. Creates a daily listing of hospital patients. 23. Provides back up to the Office Nurse as needed. 24. Acts as or provides back up for Triage Nurse. 25. Performs other related work as required. QUALIFICATIONS: Graduate of accredited school of nursing. Two years of experience in cardiovascular nursing or critical care experience. CPR and ACLS certified. LICENSURE/REGISTRATION: Valid current license as a registered nurse in the state of Iowa without restriction. CPR, ACLS certified.
