Coronary Artery Bypass Graft

Iowa Heart surgeons perform 1,200 heart operations annually – more than two thirds of those are coronary artery bypass grafts (CABG). This is more than any other group in Iowa — giving patients the highest level of both experience and expertise.
CABG surgery creates new routes around narrowed or blocked arteries, allowing for the reestablishment of sufficient blood flow to the heart muscle. CABG surgery is advised for selected groups of patients with significant narrowing and blockages of the heart arteries (i.e. coronary artery disease).
Minimally invasive techniques are used whenever appropriate, including off-pump bypass procedures on a beating heart, and endosaphenous vein harvesting.
