Appointment Details

Thank you for selecting Iowa Heart Center for your cardiology care.

We try to accommodate all requests for specific cardiologists, but there may be times when the physician you ask for is not available. If this happens, you may see an associate or, if you prefer, reschedule your appointment.

What to Bring

Please bring the following to your appointment:

  • Please bring any medical records or reports you may have, including previous EKGs, lab reports, hospital records, etc.
  • All of your prescribed medications (do this for each visit)
  • If you are scheduled for a treadmill test, bring or wear comfortable walking shoes
  • If your insurance company requires a signed form, bring one with you

What to Expect

On your first visit, we'll ask you to tell us about your medical history. We'll give you a comprehensive physical examination, and conduct any diagnostic tests necessary to provide you with the best possible care. Each office is equipped with state-of-the-art diagnostic equipment to provide you with a complete evaluation of your heart.

At the end of your evaluation, the physician will give you their impressions and answer any questions you may have. If test results are not immediately available, we'll contact you by phone or mail. We will also work closely with your family physician and forward a complete record of your visit with our recommendations.

If your condition requires you to be hospitalized for further testing or treatment, Iowa Heart Center cardiologists will continue to supervise your care. More than one of our physicians may see you during your hospital stay, but the individualized approach to your care will be similar regardless of which physician you see.

Office Hours/Appointments/Emergencies

Our regular office hours are 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Patients are seen by appointment only. Please schedule your appointment as far in advance as possible. If you have to cancel an appointment, please let us know as soon as possible.

We value your time, so we make every effort to stay on schedule. However, your cardiologist may be delayed due to an emergency or special procedure. If this happens, and you are unable to wait, our staff will be happy to make another appointment for you.

If you are experiencing a problem that you or your staff feel cannot wait until your next appointment (chest pain, for example), you may be directed to a hospital emergency room. Iowa Heart Center cardiologists and surgeons are always available for cardiac emergencies.

If you need to contact the physician before or after office hours, or on the weekends, call the office where you are normally seen. Give your name and number, and the nature of your problem or concern, to the answering service. Your request will then be relayed to an Iowa Heart Center physician.

Insurance and your Account

Iowa Heart Center's billing staff will file your insurance claim with the carrier of your choice. You will receive notification of any charges that your insurance carrier will not pay. Although an insurance claim has been filed, you will continue to receive statements each month as long as there is a balance on your account.

Iowa Heart Center participates in most local HMOs. We will request the appropriate co-payment at the time of service.

The charges you incur are your responsibility. Iowa Heart Center is not responsible for collecting insurance claims or negotiating settlements on disputed claims. Of course, we will be happy to discuss your charges with you.
